A Charter of Rights for the River Tyne

Love Our Tyne wants to change the way we see and treat our river catchment. As a member of the River Rights Network, we want to push people, businesses, local and national government to protect and enhance our rivers for the mutual benefit of our planet, our environment and the people who live here. We are working to promote the recognition of the rights of the River Tyne and its catchment to a healthy coexistence with people, through:

  1. Increasing public awareness of the Rights of Nature movement and its application to the River Tyne.
  2. Co-creating a charter of rights for the River Tyne.
  3. Promoting public engagement and understanding of the rights of the River Tyne.
  4. Working with government and other stakeholders to protect and embed these rights in all planning decisions.
  5. Co-operating with Rights of Nature organisations nationally to expand on these aims.
